In 2025, China's new energy storage will add 66.43GW/189.48GWh to operation

On January 22, the CNESA DataLink 2025 Energy Storage Data Release and Energy Storage International Summit and Exhibition 2026 press conference was held in Beijing.

Liu Wei, Secretary General of Zhongguancun Energy Storage Industry Technology Alliance, introduced the preparations for the 14th Energy Storage International Summit and Exhibition ESIE 2026. She stated that this year's ESIE will achieve a comprehensive value upgrade, with the core being to create a true "energy storage ecosystem exhibition". It is not just about gathering traffic, but also committed to creating industrial value - through precise resource matching, deep content services, and long-term ecological links, building a platform that empowers energy storage enterprises to grow throughout their entire lifecycle. At the same time, standing at a critical juncture of the market-oriented transformation of independent energy storage during the 15th Five Year Plan period, facing increasing regional market policy differences and greater challenges in industrial decision-making. The alliance has launched the country's first independent energy storage market mechanism policy map in the form of a reference book. Focusing on the core policies of 21 provinces, we will dismantle the revenue model, highlight the excavator system, evaluate the level of revenue, provide efficient decision-making references for the government, enterprises, and investment institutions, and safeguard the high-quality development of the industry.

According to incomplete statistics from the CNESA DataLink global energy storage database, as of the end of December 2025, the cumulative installed capacity of China's power energy storage is 213.3GW, a year-on-year increase of 54%. 2025 is the final year of the 14th Five Year Plan. Compared with the end of the 13th Five Year Plan, the market share of energy storage technology has changed, with pumped storage accounting for 31.3%. New energy storage represented by lithium batteries has achieved leapfrog growth, with a cumulative installed capacity of over 2/3, accelerating the development towards diversification.
