The first test run of electric compressor units for long-distance pipelines in China has been successfully completed

发布日期:2026-04-03

On April 1st, reporters learned from the National Natural Gas Network that the two compressor units at the Quzhou Compressor Station of the Second West-to-East Gas Pipeline had completed a 72-hour trial run of converting from gas turbines to electric motors. All performance indicators met the design specifications, marking the first successful conversion of compressor units from gas turbines to electric motors in China's long-distance pipeline sector.

The "Gas-to-Electricity" project for pipeline compressor units involves replacing traditional gas-powered systems with high-efficiency motor-driven systems. This transition ensures that the units no longer consume natural gas as a fuel, thereby reducing emissions while enhancing operational efficiency and lowering maintenance costs. The newly commissioned project includes the installation of two 18-megawatt motors, frequency converters, and associated auxiliary systems, with a design pressure of 10 megapascals. All equipment used is domestically produced, and the core compressor components have been simultaneously updated, further enhancing the operational efficiency, stability, and maintenance convenience of the units.

After the compressor unit fuel-to-electricity conversion project is put into operation, it will increase the pipeline transportation capacity of the Nanchang-Shanghai branch line of the West-East Gas Pipeline II by 25%, which is of great significance for further enhancing the pipeline network's ability to ensure supply and emergency peak shaving in the Yangtze River Delta region. The compressor unit is a key power equipment for long-distance natural gas pipelines. If we compare natural gas pipelines to the "arteries" of national energy, then the compressor unit is the "heart" that ensures the continuous delivery of natural gas. In long-distance transmission, a compressor station is generally built every 150-200 kilometers to pressurize natural gas through the compressor unit, overcome pipeline resistance, and ensure smooth gas flow. After the project converts the fuel-driven unit into an electric-driven unit, it will reduce natural gas consumption by about 35 million cubic meters annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 76,000 tons. This is of great significance for energy conservation and emission reduction in China's energy industry.
