The world's largest impulse turbine rotor has been successfully lifted

date:2026-08-29

On the 11th, the world's largest impulse turbine hydroelectric generating unit successfully completed the rotor lifting at the Datang Zala Hydropower Station. This marks that China's key technologies for ultra-high water head and large capacity impulse turbine hydroelectric equipment have entered the world's leading ranks, effectively boosting the construction of the clean energy base in southeastern Tibet. Currently, the project is in the final sprint phase before full commissioning.

It is understood that the rotor lifted this time weighs 840 tons, equivalent to the total weight of about 560 household cars, and serves as the "power heart" for the generator unit to achieve energy conversion. On the snowy plateau, the project team overcame multiple extreme challenges such as high altitude hypoxia, huge size, and stringent precision requirements, successfully completing this massive and precise lifting operation.

As the world's most complex impulse hydropower project currently under construction, the Datang Zala Hydropower Station has been selected into the National Energy Administration's first set of major technical equipment catalog, shouldering the national mission of "developing for the country and demonstrating for the country" to ensure energy security. The successful installation of this "national heavy equipment" has helped break the technological monopoly of foreign countries in the field of high-head and large-capacity impulse units, setting a new benchmark for China's intelligent manufacturing on the world hydropower stage.
