Energy storage power station atop the sand sea of China (Part 1)

    Dengkou County, Inner Mongolia, is located in a region rich in new energy resources in China, boasting high-quality wind and photovoltaic resources. It serves as a key hub for the transmission of new energy from the northwest and the consumption of regional green electricity, and is also a core model area for the construction of new power systems and the large-scale implementation of energy storage.

    On August 13th, the on-site exploration and exchange activity for the Dengkou Energy Storage Project, organized by Singularity Energy, was held in Wuhai, Inner Mongolia. The research group was organized to visit the Taixin Energy Storage 500MW/2000MWh power station delivered by Singularity Energy to explore the project construction achievements, technological innovations, and operational effectiveness.

    The Inner Mongolia Taiyaoxin Energy Storage Power Station, located in Dengkou County, Bayannur City, is a key project aimed at achieving regional new energy consumption, enhancing grid stability, and promoting local economic development. With a capacity of 500MW/2000MWh, the power station is equipped with a total of 400 string-type AC/DC integrated energy storage prefabricated cabinets and 100 combined busbar and step-up units. Additionally, it is equipped with prefabricated primary and secondary power transmission and distribution facilities, and a new 220kV step-up station has been built, which is connected to the Xiangtai Substation via a single circuit line.

    As a steadfast pioneer in string energy storage technology, Singularity Energy has successfully implemented a GWh-scale string architecture in the Dengkou benchmark project. This project marks the first GWh-scale project delivered by Singularity Energy, setting a new record for the scale of its individual projects. All equipment was delivered in just 60 days, and the entire station was efficiently debugged and verified for "3 charges and 3 discharges" in just 7 days. This project marks the first large-scale application of Singularity Energy's flagship product, Galaxy-1 string prefabricated cabin, on the source grid side, contributing to the construction of new energy in Inner Mongolia and setting a new paradigm for the large-scale and high-quality development of domestic grid-side energy storage.

    The operation strategy of the power station adopts a sawtooth-type charging and discharging pattern, with a daily cycle of 1.3-1.4 times. The system has a high online rate, and its operational capacity has consistently ranked in the top 10% in the region for a long time. The monthly revenue of the power station ranks firmly in the first tier of the region. The revenue of the power station consists of two parts: one is the revenue obtained from participating in electricity market transactions to gain price differences, and the other is the revenue from subsidies for discharged electricity.

    According to the "2025 Annual Statistical Data of the Electrochemical Energy Storage Power Station Industry" released by the China Electricity Council, the average comprehensive efficiency of grid-side energy storage is 82.21%. However, as indicated by the on-grid and off-grid electricity displayed on the 220kV gateway meter of the power station, the comprehensive efficiency of Taiyaoxin Energy Storage Power Station is greater than 88.5%, ranking at the forefront of the industry.
